The Exam Process

International Trade Certification

  1. Decide which certification is right for you.
Review the dozen certifications available and make contact for help choosing.

  2. Decide how to best prepare.
Examinees may enroll with any of the Approved Training Providers to prepare for the exam, or they may study the knowledge requirements independently.

  3. Determine when and where to take the exam.
All exams are provided via an online testing portal, which requires stable high speed internet access and a quiet environment.

Please note: At this time all exams are available in English only.

For the “Online Proctoring” method, examinees will be required to have a working webcam and microphone enabled on their laptop device or desktop computer. Minimum requirements are listed here. We recommend your internet speeds (Upload and Download) are much more than these minimum requirements to ensure you do not have any issues.

If you do not have a working webcam, the alternative “In-Person Proctor” method is accessed through the same online testing portal but instead of using a webcam, the examinee must have an impartial third party individual to be in the same room through the entire duration of the exam. Some examples of impartial third party proctors are: managers or HR representatives at your workplace, use of a local library or testing facility, or other means.

  4. Book the exam.
Complete the Certification Exam Application (either Online Proctoring or In-Person Proctoring) and pay the exam fee online. Please note the exam must be scheduled and paid 30 days or more from receipt of the application. Also please note, both the application and payment must be received at the same time, at least 30 days before the exam.

  5. Receive an Entrance Ticket.
This will list several important details, including the date/time/location of your test, the exam day schedule. Retain this email for your records.

  6. Sit for the exam.
Be sure to follow the assigned schedule on the Entrance Ticket to ensure there is enough time to complete all the exam questions. The time to complete the test varies by exam type, ranging from two (2) to four (4) hours - excluding breaks. Please use the breaks when they are available.

  7. Receive the score.
Exams are electronically graded, and examinees can expect to have their result (Pass or Fail) within 10 business days. Please note the results are sent via email to the address provided on the application. This notification will also include information on next steps, including grievance procedures or retest options for those seeking additional remedies.

  8. Claim your badge & add “Certified” to your resume.
Examinees who successfully pass their exam will receive the certification award in multiple formats, including a digital badge to share across online platforms, a digital certificate and award letter available for print, and listing in the Certification Directory of Professionals.

  9. Maintain certified status.
As a certified member of the Certification Community, examinees are responsible for maintaining their knowledge base by completing continuing education credits. These CEU’s can be accumulated via attending conferences, completing online courses/webinars, or via enrollments with our Approved Providers.
