BIOGRAPHY - F. Amanda DeBusk

F. Amanda DeBusk is a partner of the Washington, DC-based law firm of Miller & Chevalier. From 1997-2000, Ms. DeBusk was the U.S. Department of Commerce's Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement. As a Senate-confirmed presidential appointee, she was the head of a 165-person organization charged with enforcing U.S. export controls (including sanctions) and the antiboycott regulations. In addition, she was responsible for various international trade negotiations and initiatives; worked with the Congress on legislation that resulted in higher penalties; managed a $17 million budget; and dealt with business leaders from Fortune 500 companies on regulatory issues.
She has broad experience in international trade regulation, including export and import laws, and international agreements. Her industry experience includes steel, food products, consumer products, semiconductors, telecommunications, lumber, paper and textiles. She has represented clients in Canada, Europe, South America and Asia, as well as the United States.
Ms. DeBusk has experience with many trade agreements: the World Trade Organization, the North America Free Trade Agreement, the organization for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Free Trade Agreement of the Americas, and the Transatlantic Business Dialogue. She has served as Visiting Counsel for Trade Policy at the World Bank. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the University of Richmond Board of Trustees. Ms. DeBusk received a B.A. degree from the University of Richmond and a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School.
