BIOGRAPHY - Alexander Klein - MBA, CITLS®, CITE® (As of June 20, 2008)
Alexander. Klein is a manager in the Engineering Services group of APL Logistics. APL Logistics is a global provider of logistics services headquartered in Singapore and California with offices throughout the world. He works with Sales and Business Development to develop supply chain solutions. His background includes a BBA from George Washington University in Logistics, Operations and Materials Management and an MBA from Temple University in General and Strategic Management. He has earned the prestigious Certified International Trade Logistics Specialist® and is also a Certified International Trade Educator®.
Mr. Klein's exposure to international business developed during the early part of his career when he was involved in warehousing in the Port of NY/NJ. During his five years with P. Judge & Sons he worked with many importers and exporters preparing and inspecting freight and documentation. The work ranged from assaying mineral products from China being imported to the US to marking home goods or retail products for export shipments to the likes of the Middle East and Russia. Managing the quality review process of the product and the accompanying paperwork was the key to ensuring all regulations were met and the product was not delayed.
International Trade took a brief hiatus as Mr. Klein returned to school to
earn his MBA and consequently worked for a US domestic Class I railroad
whose customers and shipping environment were concentrated to the
northeastern United States. Mr. Klein had the opportunity to work with
other global rail providers such as the South African Rail Corp on network
and supply chain design issues.
The focus of Mr. Klein's efforts while at APL Logistics are in support of
existing customers who required more efficient and competitive supply chain
networks. Highlights include: Assisted book publisher in the development of
an overweight container program for books shipping from China to the US;
Development of several DC bypass programs for US importers; Development of
an Asia Hub for export shipments; Development of international shipping
services "OceanGuaranteed"; Assisted several manufacturers in the
establishment of off-shore production facilities including moving machinery
to those locations; Assisted in the growth of APLL's European
infrastructure.
